Paddle Saturday 14th - Tracht Beach - to - Salthill Galway

Post by Brian McMahon »

Hi all,

Sorry to hear Colin's Trip cancelled due to weather.

Saturday however is looking pretty good. Calm enough to fish even !!
So anyone interested meet Tracht beach 1000hrs with a view to being on the water by 1030hrs.
Paddle across the bay at Mach 2 for fish and chips Salthill beach and then back again like bats outa hell while fishing for more fishies in a fast efficient manner. :D

Flood tide until 1330hrs wind speed very low so far. Swell low also.

So bring a handline if your interested.

See ya there :D

Anyway, hope to see you on the water on my way back.

Change of plan, conditions tomorrow are quite benign and we will instead meet at White Strand, outside Doonbeg Village. The plan is to head in the direction of Kilkee to Ballard Bay and Donegal Point.

Getting back to the beach, water temperature is still above 15 degrees and there is an opportunity for a wet session for anyone interested.

10 am White Strand DOONBEG (not Miltown)

Post if you are joining us.

Have a great day folks, sorry I'm away at a Greyhound Rescue Association gathering.
Ships in the night and all that. Hope we can still recognise each other when we eventually meet up again.:)

Cheers for now- Dave G

A great decision to change venues, despite not completing the trip we had set out to do.

Having left White Strand and turned towards Kilkee, very quickly it became obvious the swell was higher than predicted, although helped by the reefs in the area. Very light breezes only but the swell for the most part in the open was easily 6 to 8ft. Every now and again a set would come in exceeding 10ft from base to top and sometimes higher again. You certainly felt small as the breeze on your face picked up as you slid down the side. After a short time, we thought it safer to head back to the beach for a surf session. Spent an hour plus running lovely waves, rolling and basically having a ball - we were like kids in a sweet shop - well for must of us anyhow......

"Lets go back to the beach for a surf session," says he, "it will be great craic and safer....?"

Comment of the day has to go to Chris - "it could have been worse, it could have been my boat."
