The annual Eddy Island Swim is being revived on this Saturday 31 August. This year's swim is a fundraiser for the local Coastal Search and Rescue team. The organizers have appealed for kayakers to chaperone the swimmers. The message I received reads: 'We'll have c. 20 swimmers leaving Killeenaran Pier around 16.30 hrs and returning safe and sound around 18.00 hrs ... if you can help out with kayaking, food etc please let me know.' I'll be there for one. By road, turn west off the old Galway-Limerick road in Kilcolgan village, opposite the Garda Station, and just keep heading west to the shore.
