This one is for beginners, improvers and duffers generally.

We are three men without much experience who have taken to paddling inshore waters, bays and estuaries, on short weekend excursions (2-4 hrs, 5-10 km) around south Galway/north Clare, as none of us is experienced or skilled enough to attach ourselves to an ocean-going pod of peer paddlers. If you are another beginner/improver who would like to join us, send me a phone number, or give me a call, and I will add you to a whatsapp group.

If any of all of you have full sized sea kayaks (16ft+) and want to join us on any shorter runs posted to start with, feel free to come along.

First outing of the Inshore Paddlers (beginners and improvers) from New Quay beach (east end of the Flaggy Shore) on Sunday 19 May, meet 3.30 pm. Four or five folk signed up including one (possibly two) more experienced paddlers. Others very welcome. Jerry 087 646 9327

A great spot, just be mindful of strong currents mid channel. When you have wind against tide when emptying, it is usually rocking with standing waves - great for surfing.

Spring tide this weekend but HW not until 6.30pm so no issues.

All noted, thanks. If going into the bay and coming back out on the falling tide I'd probably elect to duck out on the shingle before Linnane's and avoid the worst of the turbulence in the channel. What are you doing on Sunday?! Jerry

Looks as though the group are e-biking to loop head Saturday, there is no word on paddling plans for the weekend that I am aware of.

Welcome Dave,

The beginners / improvers in our 'inshore' whatsapp group are planning two June excursions. A gentle paddle around the lake at Dromore Woods Nature Reserve in Clare on Sunday 16 (meet in car park 11.00 am). This one is for the benefit of a couple of 'give it a go' beginners who want to sit into a boat on flat water, but all are welcome. NPWS says stay out of the nesting areas in the reed beds.

And for something more challenging, camping at Actons Eco Campsite on Saturday 22 June and paddling down Killary on Sunday 23. One or two more experienced folk have committed to this.

Please get in touch if either outing interests you.

Hi Jerry,

I might be about to lend some assistance Sunday at Dromore.
Although most would agree that I'm more a hindrance than anything else.
Also whatever skills I pretend to have others call bad habits.

See you Sunday.
